Awareness in Discovery

Awareness in Discovery was designed in the Tech-
nology for Design II Studio, under the direction of The
Visual Communication Program Head: Alfred C.
Sanft and Program Coordinator: Andrew Weed. The Program
Book is a staple project in the program, it combines
strong Typography and layout design with hand craft skills.
Lin has decided to name the book “Awareness in
Discovery” because the following volumes document the process
of becoming sensitive to the principles of Graphic
Design. Volume I documents second year projects from
the Visual Communication Design program, and II
documents the third. Lin’s system for the book works for
multiple proportion projects, and the Typography in
the book has been treated with immense care. All page
numbers and n dashes have been appropriately
kerned, an active rag for each paragraph/caption has been
made, and the value of the page captions have been
adjusted to keep the live area of all spreads dominant.

The books have 69 signatures (4 nested folios in
each) and 1168 pages. Volumes I and II were kettle
stitched and binded by Lin. For more specific
information about Awareness in Discovery, please refer
to the colophon (found at the end of each volume).
